Guilin Quanzhou Muskmelon

Guilin Quanzhou Muskmelon is a "fragrant bomb" in summer, produced in the alluvial plains of Quanzhou County—where flat terrain and fertile soil are ideal for muskmelon growth. Quanzhou muskmelons mainly include varieties like "Jinfei" and "Yugu," with oval-shaped fruits in emerald green or golden yellow skins, covered in fine lines. Cutting one open reveals light green flesh that emits a rich fruity aroma, like a mix of cantaloupe's sweetness and cucumber's freshness. The flesh is thick and plump, crispy, juicy, and up to 16 degrees sweet, making a crisp sound when bitten, with juice dripping from the corner of the mouth, making you want more. Grown with plastic film mulching and drip irrigation techniques, muskmelons mature from May to September, when the fruits absorb ample sunlight, resulting in stronger aroma and higher sweetness. At Quanzhou's fruit markets, foreign visitors often see vendors cutting muskmelons into small pieces and selling them on bamboo skewers. One bite reveals the unique flavor of "sweet but not cloying, fragrant but not overpowering," paired perfectly with an ice-cold beer or sour plum soup in summer.
